Week 2 - dreaming

Second work for 2016 done in many layers - acrylic with some graphite drawing, then more acrylic with some coloured pencil drawing, then more acrylic. Slowly the painting developed into something with a rather soft and dreamy feeling.

"Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur usually involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep." - Wikipedia

"Why we dream is still one of the behavioral sciences' greatest unanswered questions. Researchers have offered many theories—memory consolidation, emotional regulation, threat simulation—but a unified one remains, well, a pipe dream. Nevertheless, people continue mining their nighttime reveries for clues to their inner lives, for creative insight, and even for premonitions." - Psychology Today
I've had some recurring dreams which have translated onto canvas before, surreal ideas I know, but very much real and part of my life. Still.
For some world cultures dreams are an important part of their rituals, and in Biblical times dreams were sometimes experienced as prophecies and messages from God.
So here is 'dreaming', acrylic, graphite and coloured pencil on stretched canvas, 300mm x 300mm x 25mm, available through Trademe for a while
