week 7 - ephemera

Ephemera (ἐφήμερα) is a noun, the plural neuter of ephemeron and ephemeros, Greek and New Latin for ἐπί – epi "on, for" and ἡμέρα – hemera "day" with the ancient sense extending to the mayfly and other short lived insects and flowers and for something which lasts a day or a short period of time.

A short period of time..  They say 50 is the new 40. They also say 60 is the new 50. And 100 is the new 90.. and it's all to do with longevity or the lack thereof. Life is precious and we think we're bulletproof untill we strike those 'new' ages and suddenly we realise that we're so not. Little mayflies, all of us living on this magnificent planet, all following the same path and coming to the same river.

Eccles 3:19-20  For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity. 20All go to the same place. All came from the dust and all return to the dust.…

So! We're all stardust? Of course we are. And that's okay too :-) because it's the truth and it's beautiful.

Thanks for being dusty, see next week xx

week 6 - sweet dreams

insomnia is a beast - one that has been knocking on my door since I'm older, but one that I couldn't grasp when I was still studying music, with a practical exam waiting for me in the morning. I remember collapsing on my bed with the beconning of a good number of hours being in forgetful absence.. Sleep has always been a way of escape for lucky me - thinking, I'm free, in my happy place of dreaming about all things pink and fluffy, on a cloud of nothingness.

These days I manage it in full awakeness - while painting!! Well for a good number of those hours anyway..

Week 5 - happenings..

hi again

This week two things.. first about the monkeys in Parnell!
It's Chinese New Year celebrations and it's the year of the monkey, so there are 20 handmade monkeys in Parnell waiting to be discovered.. and I have been fortunate to be able to paint a monkey for this event. 'Stardust' is exhibited at Black Door Gallery and available through silent bidding on the website. All details here

And second thing is this little painting done for week 5, first one for February. It is about evolution, genealogy, birds and bees, and anything you see in there - all valid. Acrylic paint on modelling paste, sealed with satin finish varnish, ready to hang on stretched canvas, with sides painted black (such a schlepp for me, but it does make the painting pop) How many birds can you see? How many bees? How many faces and profiles? Our brains are magical instruments, don't you think?
Thanks for visiting my blog - see next week ;)
