week 10 - balanced diet

Image
Suffering from a chocolate brain freeze and seriously thinking about healthy eating again.. what we do to ourselves sometimes!

So here is "balanced diet" - very timely after the Easter weekend with all the holidays and letting those good habits slip. Slightly!

I am what I eat, so today I'm sweet and sticky. But tomorrow I'll be getting back to fresh, green, raw and earthy ;-) and I'm sure the brain will be ever so grateful..

Take care

week 9 - white flower

Image
Is there anything as pure and innocent as a white flower?

This little painting is made up of many many layers - acrylic, drawing in graphite, more acrylic, modelling paste and more acrylic. Tools used were brushes, pencils, painting knife, fingers and lastly a bamboo skewer to add a centre to the little white flower.

I never intended to paint a flower, it sort of presented itself and demanded to be included in the little picture. Who am I to object - was that a pun?

It's been a long time since I've done a complete work (albeit small) using my fingers as last layer. How lovely to be so closely in touch with the material, and what a freeing experience for me to let it happen and not to control the outcome too much. Lesson learned - free up, loosen up, let it go, and enjoy the moment

Hieroglyphs we know as those pictorial inscriptions one would associate with Egypt, with the Rosetta Stone casting an explanatory light on translating them, and much more..

While semitic writing usually happens from right to left, and my own language associated with Romantic languages written from left to right, we are just scraping the surface of philology...

So to add to this very interesting subject the fact that some symbols with special meaning only to me and my particular art making have been surfacing in some of my work - now, am I painting, or am I writing? These marks have been practiced, done again and again, so that the…
